When one area of your report scores low, fix it in this order. Cheap structural fixes usually lift everything else.
1. Fix structure and formatting first
A clean single-column layout with standard headings takes minutes to apply and improves extraction for every other check. If the Resume Parser Test shows scrambled or missing text, fix that before anything else — a parser that cannot read your resume cannot score any area fairly.
2. Then close keyword gaps
Add missing terms where they are genuinely true, inside the bullet that describes the work. See why keywords show as missing for how detection works.
3. Then rewrite weak bullets
Focus on outcomes over duties: what changed because of your work, with a number where one exists. The quantify achievements guide covers how to do this honestly when you do not have exact metrics.
4. Re-run the analysis
Check whether the area moved. If a score did not change after a real improvement, read the findings for that area — they explain what the engine looked for.
What not to do
Do not edit your resume purely to chase the score — adding keywords you cannot support or padding sections to hit a length. The score is a proxy for "clear and readable"; writing that is genuinely clear and evidence-based scores well and interviews better.
